Students

A student record in Sijil is small on purpose: a name, a father's name, a class, a guardian's phone, and a fee. Everything else about that child — attendance, sabaq, payments, who their guardian is — accumulates around that record rather than being typed into it.

This page covers enrolling one, the four tabs on the profile that follows, photographs, moving a student to another class, and what removing a student actually does.

Enrolling a student

Students → New student, in three sections. The roll number is not one of the fields: Sijil assigns it.

1. Step 1

   Personal information

   Name, father's name and gender are required — the gender because boys' and girls' classes are separate in most madrasas and the class list filters on it. Date of birth is optional.

2. Step 2

   Academic information

   The class, and where the student sits in that class's list. Both can be left for later: Abhi na chunein to baad mein lag sakti hai.

   A student with no class is enrolled but appears on no register, so if you are enrolling in bulk before your classes exist, expect them all to show up in the dashboard's Students jinki class nahi list until you assign them.

3. Step 3

   Contact details and fee

   The guardian's name and phone, the student's own phone if they have one, and the address.

   Once a class is chosen, its monthly fee appears and you decide what this student pays: Poori fees, Kam fees (any amount up to the class fee — Sijil shows the discount as an amount and a percentage), or Maaf with an optional reason. There is no fee to set before a class is chosen, because the class fee is what a concession is measured against.

The toast confirms with the roll number Sijil gave: Ahmad Ali add ho gaya — Roll 47.

Photographs

A photograph is optional and can be added at any time from the profile header — Upload Photo from the gallery or Take Photo with the camera. Either way you crop and zoom to put the face in the frame, and the picture is compressed in the browser before it is uploaded. JPG, PNG and WebP are accepted.

Photographs are worth the trouble for one specific reason: the class register on a phone is easier to mark correctly when the faces are there, particularly for an Ustaz teaching a class they do not know yet.

The four tabs on a profile

Opening a student gives you a header — photograph, name, father's name, roll number, class — and four tabs. Each one reads the same records the rest of Sijil reads, so nothing here is a separate copy of anything.

Two figures on the attendance side look similar and are not. One is how much of the register was filled in at all, and the other is how much of the marked register the student was present for. A madrasa that did not mark Thursday has not made a child absent, so the coverage figure is never coloured against them.

Moving a student to another class

The class on the profile cannot be edited in place. It says so: Class yahan se tabdeel nahi hoti — 'Change Class' istemaal karein. The reason is that a class change is not a correction of a typo, it is an event with a date, a fee and a register on either side of it.

Change Class shows you the consequences before it does anything:

1. Step 1

   Pick the new class and see the impact

   Sijil previews the move without writing anything: the new class's attendance, its fee, and what happens to the sabaq the student was on.

2. Step 2

   Set the fee for the new class

   The new class's own fee is offered. You can reduce or waive it here as you would at admission — a concession does not travel with the student, because it was measured against the old class's fee.

3. Step 3

   Confirm

   Today becomes the last day in the old class and tomorrow the first day in the new one, so no single date belongs to two classes and no register double-counts the child.

If the student had real sabaq progress in the old class, that pointer stays their main one and the new class's is added alongside rather than replacing it. Sijil does not decide that a child has restarted Nazira because they changed rooms. Sabaq progress explains what a pointer is.

Removing a student

Remove on the profile, confirmed by typing the student's name exactly — the friction is deliberate, because the screen is honest about being one-way: Yeh action restore nahi hoga.

What removal does: the student leaves the active lists, stops appearing on registers, and stops being billed. What it does not do: delete the past. Their attendance, their receipts and their record stay, and searching their name from the dashboard still finds them, labelled Hataya gaya.

That is the right tool for a child who has left the madrasa. It is the wrong tool for a mistake — a duplicate enrolled twice is still better removed than deleted, because a receipt with no student attached is worse than a marked one.
