The admin dashboard

The dashboard answers one question — what needs me today? — and it is arranged in that order rather than by importance in the abstract. Registers still open come before money, money comes before things waiting on your approval, and the headline counts come last, because a student total is interesting once a week and never urgent.

Every figure on it is computed by the database from the same rows the detail screens read. That is worth knowing for a practical reason: the dashboard and the Fees screen cannot disagree with each other, so when a number looks wrong the problem is in the records, not in the arithmetic.

The line at the top

Under the title sits the academic session — Session 1 April se 31 March tak, or an open-ended version if you did not set an end date.

If it says Koi academic session set nahi hai, nothing else on the page has anything to count. Attendance, fees and the registers all hang off a session, so start one before reading anything else. See Ending an academic year for what a session is and how it closes.

Aaj ki hazri — today's registers

Every class timing that runs today, in one list, in one of four states:

Aaj koi register nahi means no timing runs today at all — a holiday, the weekly off, or a class whose timings were never set. Aaj ki saari hazri lag gayi means the day is done.

The Mohtamim does not mark attendance from here. The register belongs to the Ustaz who teaches the class, and the link on an open row goes to their side of it so you can see what they see. The teacher's own account of this is Marking attendance.

Is maheene ki fees — this month's money

Four figures for the current month: Kul waajib (billed), Wasool hui (collected), the percentage between them, and Kul baqaya — total arrears, which is not a monthly figure at all but everything still owed, with the number of students it belongs to and the month it starts from.

One rule governs all of them, and it is stated on the card: Maaf ki gayi fees shamil nahi. A waived fee counts as neither collected nor outstanding. It leaves the ledger rather than moving inside it, which is why waiving a fee does not flatter your collection rate.

Aapke intezaar mein — waiting for you

The only band on the dashboard that asks you to do something. It lists three kinds of blockage, and it is empty when there are none:

• Ustaad ke device ki ijazat — a phone waiting for approval. Until you approve it, that Ustaz cannot mark a register from it.
• Students jinki class nahi — enrolled but in no class, so they appear on no register anywhere. This is the usual cause of an attendance count that looks too low.
• Band ki gayi classes — deactivated classes. Their registers do not run; they can be switched back on.

Madrasa — the three counts

Students, asatiza and classes, each a link to its own screen. The student count is students currently under study: a removed student is not in it, and neither is a graduated one.

The search box

Searches students by name, father's name or roll number. Removed students appear too, labelled Hataya gaya, which is deliberate — the most common reason to search for a name is that somebody at the gate is asking about a child who left.

On the first day

Before any class exists the dashboard replaces itself with two steps: create a class with its timings, then add students. That is not a simplified view for beginners; it is the actual dependency order. A student with no class has no register, and a class with no timings has no register either.
